# Amid an unprecedented heatwave and ongoing wildfires, regional authorities report a temperature reading of 48.8°C (119.8°F) on the island of Sicily. If verified by the World Meteorological Organization it would be the hottest temperature ever recorded in both Italy and Europe. 

If the registered reading is verified, it will be hottest temperature ever recorded in Europe.
