# Chiba, Kanagawa, Osaka, and Saitama prefectures enter a state of emergency due to a spike of COVID-19 cases during the 2020 Summer Olympics. A quasi-state of emergency is also being imposed in Hokkaido, Ishikawa, Kyoto, Hyogo and Fukuoka; both measures are in effect until August 31. 

Three prefectures in the Tokyo metropolitan area and Osaka enters into a COVID-19 state of emergency Monday due to a recent spike in coronavirus cases, joining the capital and Okinawa, amid fears of a medical system collapse during the Tokyo Olympics.
