# American Karl Deisseroth of Stanford University, and Germans Peter Hegemann of Humboldt University and Georg Nagel of the University of Würzburg are jointly awarded the Nobel Prize in Medicine for "their discoveries concerning light-gated ion channels and optogenetics".
