Mudslides and floods have killed 16, and more than 40 are missing in some districts of the southern Khatlon region in Tajikistan.
Around 200 anti-government militants ambush a security convoy in Gorno-Badakhshan, Tajikistan, on a road linking the country to China. Eight militants and one officer are killed, while 13 officers are injured and more than 70 militants are arrested. The Tajik interior ministry later stated that the attack was an attempt to "destabilise the social and political situation" in the region.
Afghan presidential advisor Hamdullah Mohib says that there will be a counter-offensive against the Taliban in the north after the group captured six districts in Badakhshan Province. On Sunday, at least 1,037 Afghan troops abandoned their positions and fled into Tajikistan.
Kyrgyzstan accuses Tajikistan of building up troops and military equipment on the border. The Kyrgyz side also accuses Tajik forces of opening fire on Kyrgyz vehicles in the area. A Tajik spokesman speaking from Dushanbe says the country was sticking to the ceasefire and withdrawal of troops.
