An armed incident occurs between border guards at the Kyrgyzstan–Tajikistan border, killing one Tajik border guard. Following the incident, officials from the Batken Region in Kyrgyzstan and the Sughd Region in Tajikistan hold talks.
Voters in Kyrgyzstan go to the polls for a parliamentary election amid concerns about a possible renewal of tensions between ethnic groups. With 50 percent of the vote counted, the Ata-Zhurt party has received the most votes so far but no party is close to achieving a majority.
Tensions remain high in Kyrgyzstan, with police patrolling the streets and special forces standing guard in the city of Osh and Jalal-Abad, after ethnic clashes left more than 100 people dead and about 1,400 others injured since fighting broke out Thursday night.
