A spokesman for the Supreme Court of Iran says it upheld a death sentence against dissident journalist Ruhollah Zam "more than one month ago". Zam was found guilty of "corruption on earth" on charges of spying for France and Israel and trying to destabilise Iran by inciting unrest in 2017 on social media. In court, Zam denied most of the allegations against him and said he was only engaged in "media work".
Iran imposes additional restrictions for its capital Tehran. The new restrictions include making everyone wear a mask while indoors mandatory, and there is a fine of 500,000 rials ($1.6) for violators who do not comply with the new rules. A partial shutdown implemented in the city last week is extended until October 16.
The Pentagon says the United States Navy's USS "Forrest Sherman" (DDG-98) intercepted a vessel in the Arabian Sea last month and seized advanced missile parts that were of Iranian origin. The crew were handed over to the Yemen Coast Guard, while the missile parts are in the possession of the United States military.
