The Federal government of the United States files a lawsuit against the U.S. state of Arizona in its bid to overturn its controversial immigration law.
Glen Casada, a top Republican Tennessee lawmaker who is the chair of the state’s House Republican Caucus, suggests activating the Tennessee National Guard to 'round up' Syrian refugees and remove them from the southeastern state, saying “Tennessee is a sovereign state, if the federal government is forsaking the obligation to protect our citizens, we need to act".
The United States Supreme Court rules that Arizona's immigration law is mostly unconstitutional, except for the part that allows for law enforcement officers, in the course of their duties, to ask about an illegal immigrant's legal status if they have actual reasons to believe that the person is an immigrant and is here illegally, especially if they are of relevance to a case.
A shooting rampage takes place at a supermarket in Tucson in the U.S. state of Arizona. Twenty are shot, including U.S. Representative Gabby Giffords. Six others are confirmed dead, including District Court judge John Roll.
