At least seven people and 15 members of the Turkish Army are killed in a Kurdistan Workers' Party ambush in the Yüksekova district near the border with Iraq and Iran.
Turkish troops have now advanced 40 km inside northern Iraq and established over 30 "temporary bases" in its ongoing military offensive against the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), according to a Turkish official. An unnamed Turkish official tells Reuters the unprecedented advance is a prelude to an assault on the Qandil Mountains, the PKK's main stronghold in Iraq.
Iraqi President Barham Salih rejects the nomination of Basra governor Asaad Al Eidani for Prime Minister of Iraq, stating that protesters will also oppose him due to his connections with Iranian-backed parties. As the constitution doesn't give him the power to officially veto candidates, Salih threatens to resign instead.
