According to the leaked data, NSO Group's Pegasus spyware was used to target Saudi-American journalist Jamal Khashoggi and his family and friends in the months before and after Khashoggi's killing. Khashoggi was assassinated and dismembered in Saudi Arabia's embassy in Istanbul in 2018 by Saudi operatives. NSO previously denied any implication in the killing.
Two women attack the U.S. consulate in Istanbul with automatic rifles. No fatalities are reported, and one of the attackers, wounded during the exchange of fire, is captured. The Revolutionary People’s Liberation Army-Front (DHKP-C) claims responsibility.
Syrian rebels take over the border Quneitra crossing between Israel and Syria after heavy fighting. Mortar rounds and rockets were launched into Israel. One IDF soldier is wounded by a bullet just days after rocket attacks from Lebanon.
Several demonstrations, some of them violent, take place in Ankara, Istanbul, Izmir, Bursa, Antalya and Diyarbakir in response to the disaster, with police responding to many of the protests with force.
