A stampede at a concert in Conakry, the capital of Guinea, to mark the end of Ramadan results in at least 24 deaths with dozens more injured.
Heavy gunfire is heard in Conakry, Guinea, as soldiers seal off and block the main bridge connecting to the Kaloum neighborhood, which houses the Presidential Palace. President Alpha Condé is arrested and taken away by special forces soldiers but appears to be unharmed. Three soldiers are reportedly killed.
Gunmen attack a military base in Kindia, Guinea, about 85 km outside of the capital Conakry, killing the camp's commander, according to a statement released by the defence ministry. A prison in the city is also attacked, wounding an official and allowing several inmates to escape. The attacks come two days before the general elections.
