Islamic State claims responsibility for a triple suicide bombing in Iraq's Diyala Province that killed 26 Kurds as well as an attack in Anbar Province that killed the head of security.
Iraq receives Ghazwan al-Zawbaee, the alleged mastermind of the ISIL suicide truck bombing that killed 340 people in Karrada, Baghdad, in 2016, which was the deadliest single-bomb attack in Iraq. Al-Zawbaee was arrested two days prior through a joint operation in a neighbouring country.
Nigerian intelligence officials say that Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau has either been killed or critically injured after detonating explosives in his house to avoid capture from the rival IS–West African Province faction. Several other Boko Haram members are also killed in the attack. However, no secondary sources have confirmed Shekau's death.
A suicide attack at an open market in Baghdad, Iraq, kills at least 32 people and injures 110 others. Attacks have been rare in the country since the 2017 military defeat of ISIL, making this incident one of the deadliest since then.
Car-bombings across Iraq kill at least 57 people. The attacks include a rare bombing in the southern Basra province leaving 10 people dead. The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant is suspected of being behind the attacks.
