The Libyan National Army (LNA), led by Khalifa Haftar, carries out massive artillery bombardment of Tripoli, Libya's capital, in a push to capture the city from Turkish-backed Government of National Accord (GNA) forces. Turkey says Haftar's forces are now "legitimate targets" if attacks on its interests continue.
Senior Libyan military officials say French special forces are on the ground in Benghazi helping Libyan National Army troops fight ISIL militants. They said that the French forces, along with American and British teams, are setting up an operations room inside Benina International Airport in Benina. The French defense ministry declined to comment, citing a policy not to comment on special forces' activities.
Demanding the disbandment of armed groups, hundreds of demonstrators attack Ansar al-Sharia and Islamist militia compounds in Benghazi, Libya. Eleven people die in the clashes. Libyan authorities re-take control of deserted strongholds.
