Gunmen shoot dead the Mayor of Misurata, Libya, Mohamed Eshtewi, and wound his brother, after they chase down his car.
The Libyan National Army (LNA), led by Khalifa Haftar, carries out massive artillery bombardment of Tripoli, Libya's capital, in a push to capture the city from Turkish-backed Government of National Accord (GNA) forces. Turkey says Haftar's forces are now "legitimate targets" if attacks on its interests continue.
At least three French Armed Forces soldiers are killed after their helicopter is shot down near the city of Benghazi, Libya. The soldiers were killed while carrying out "dangerous intelligence operations", according to French President François Hollande.
The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant's branch in Libya (Libya Province) seizes control of the western Libyan town of Sabratha, after storming it in retaliation after two of their men were arrested in a house nearby; however they then set up checkpoints around the town, with little opposition from the local militias that were supposed to be in control of the area. There are now fears that the militant group could destroy the town's Roman amphitheatre, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
At least nine people are killed and dozens injured in the eastern Libyan city of Benghazi after several mortar shells hit a protest against a UN proposal for a unity government to end the four-year long crisis in the country.
