Libyan National Army (LNA) warplanes carry out airstrikes on the port city of Misrata. The LNA say they were targeting munitions and armored vehicles that had been delivered from Turkey.
The Libyan National Army (LNA), led by Khalifa Haftar, carries out massive artillery bombardment of Tripoli, Libya's capital, in a push to capture the city from Turkish-backed Government of National Accord (GNA) forces. Turkey says Haftar's forces are now "legitimate targets" if attacks on its interests continue.
The National Oil Corporation of Libya reports that LNA forces loyal to military commander Khalifa Haftar fired multiple rockets toward Mitiga International Airport, Tripoli's only functioning airport. The rockets hit jet fuel tanks and damaged a plane.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan announces he will send troops to Libya to help the internationally-recognized Tripoli-based Government of National Accord after they requested support. He plans to submit his motion to the Grand National Assembly on January 7 for approval.
Libyan National Army forces continue to advance on the Libyan capital Tripoli, capturing the city of Gharyan, with only light resistance reported. General Khalifa Haftar has ordered the LNA to seize control of Tripoli, prompting the Tripoli-based Presidential Council to declare a general mobilization.
