Thirty-five civilians are dead and six others are injured after jihadists stormed the town of Arbinda, Soum Province, Burkina Faso, and its military base, killing seven soldiers. Eighty militants were also killed.
Four hostages, who were being held in northern Burkina Faso, are rescued by French naval commandos, with two French commandos killed during the rescue operation. Those freed include two Frenchmen who had been kidnapped in Benin on May 1 and a pair of women, one an American and the other a South Korean.
At least 50 people are killed, including 33 militants, seven civilians and ten soldiers, in armed clashes between the Tunisian Army and Islamist militants in the town of Ben Gardane, near the border with Libya.
