The United Nations General Assembly approves a resolution sponsored by Cuba, Egypt, Kuwait, Morocco, Nicaragua, Oman, Qatar, and Palestine condemning Israeli forces' use of violence against Palestinians. 139 nations voted in favor of the resolution and nine voted against: Australia, Canada, Guatemala, Hungary, Israel, the Marshall Islands, the Federated States of Micronesia, Nauru, and the United States.
Hurricane Eta is set to head towards Florida after hitting the Caribbean and Central America, especially Nicaragua and parts of Honduras. The slow-moving hurricane, which peaked at category 4, caused floods and devastation in Nicaragua and hurricane warnings are still in place for parts of Nicaragua.
Hurricane Eta is expected to rapidly increase within the next 18 hours according to the National Hurricane Center (NHC). The storm is moving in the Caribbean Sea towards Nicaragua bringing "devastating conditions". A hurricane warning has been issued for Nicaragua and Honduras.
Mexican federal police and migration agents find 136 migrants in a locked truck abandoned near a freeway in Veracruz. Without water or food, the people from the countries of Honduras, Guatemala, El Salvador, and Nicaragua, including dozens of minors, were "en route" to the United States.
The United States will end the temporary protected status program (TPS) for more than 300,000 refugees from El Salvador, Haiti, Honduras, and Nicaragua. Many of the refugees have already left for Canada, where it is easier to get asylum.
