A Taliban spokesman tells the government to "bear responsibility for the consequences", as fears grow that some of the prisoners are returning to the battlefield. As part of the peace process, the government has freed around 5,000 prisoners.

The Afghan government accuses the Taliban of kidnapping about 60 civilians in the last week in the province of Daykundi. The Taliban deny the accusation and blames the government for civilian casualties during the past week. At least 26 women and children have been freed and elder tribal leaders are mediating for the release of the rest of abductees.

In the first attack since the end of a truce declared by the Taliban, and despite a petition of the government for the Taliban to extend the ceasefire, at least 14 security forces members are killed in an attack on a checkpoint in Parwan. A government spokesperson says the Taliban also suffered casualties. The group has not commented on the attack.
