- The Taliban education minister Abdul Baqi Haqqani announces a series of restrictions on education for women and girls, outlining plans by the new government to have segregated classrooms for women and girls alleging that "co-education is un-Islamic". Women and girls will also have to wear a hijab or head cover. Haqqani says the Taliban does not want "to go 20 years back" when girls and women were not allowed education and instead says that the Taliban wants to "start building on what exists today."
