Amnesty International says it has conducted a report which says that Myanmar's armed forces "have killed civilians, including children in indiscriminate air attacks" in Rakhine and Chin states, urging the United Nations Security Council to launch a war crimes investigation. Myanmar has been fighting the separatist Arakan Army in the region. The government did not immediately respond to calls for comment.

Myanmar security forces fire into a crowd of 275 Rakhine people detained during a search for Arakan Army members, killing six and wounding eight. The military claim that they were forced to shoot after some of the detainees attempted to seize their weapons, despite warning shots and verbal warnings.

Myanmar's military announces that it has killed 13 Arakan Army fighters in a series of eight armed clashes in Rakhine State, spanning from January 5 to 13. In the same press conference, a military spokesman states that the Arakan Army had been newly classified as a terrorist organization.

Myanmar's military announces it will resume "clearance operations" in Rakhine State after a recent spike in attacks by unidentified assailants. In the past week, two Rakhine fishermen and a teenager were found murdered after they were reported missing, while two Maramagyi villagers were kidnapped and stabbed but managed to escape their abductors.
