The UN General Assembly passes a resolution by a vote of 120–14, with 45 abstentions, calling for an immediate humanitarian truce in Gaza, despite US and Israeli opposition.
The death toll in Gaza from the Israeli airstrikes rises to 145 people, including 41 children. A second refugee camp is also bombed, after another was bombed yesterday resulting in multiple deaths. At least 950 people are wounded, while two protesters are killed in the West Bank. The headquarters of many media organizations in Gaza, including Al Jazeera and the Associated Press, are destroyed by bombings. A man also dies in Ramat Gan, in Tel Aviv District, during a rocket attack; another person is also killed in another city, bringing the death toll there to 10.
A Hamas militant is killed and two others are injured when an Israeli tank fires into the Gaza Strip after a protest turned violent. The Israel Defense Forces action is retaliation for a shooting which lightly injured an officer, and for the brief incursion of two Palestinians into Israel.
Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas accuses Israel of responsibility for the deaths of 16 protestors at the border with Gaza. Israel accuses Palestinian terrorists of using civilians as human shields. A video begins circulating on social media appearing to show an unarmed teenager being shot.
In response to a rocket attack on southern Israel, Israeli airforce jets strike several targets in Gaza overnight, including Yasser Arafat International Airport, a weapons manufacturing facility and an infiltration tunnel into Israel.
The G8 releases a statement agreeing that Israel's blockade on Gaza is "not sustainable and must be changed" and calling for United Nations Security Council Resolution 1860, which was approved by the United Nations Security Council in January 2009, to be implemented.
Irish Minister for Foreign Affairs Micheál Martin makes history as he leads a 10-member delegation to Gaza via Egypt, becoming the first EU Foreign Minister to visit since the 2009 Israeli assault after having previously been refused entry by Israel. He calls on Israel to end the blockade.
