A compilation database finds that the number of mass shootings — defined as at least four dead, excluding the shooter — that occurred in the U.S. over the past year was the lowest in more than a decade. It is believed the reduction was due to the COVID-19 pandemic lockdowns and the public focusing on other tragedies.
