Brazil and Venezuela will reopen their border after a two year closure due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Brazil reports a record 4,195 deaths in the past 24 hours, thereby bringing the nationwide death toll to 336,947. It was the first time that the country surpassed the mark of 4,000 deaths in a single day.
Brazil reports 85,663 new confirmed cases and 2,216 more deaths from COVID-19, surpassing India as the country with the second-highest number of cases in the world, and also bringing Brazil's total cases to 11,363,380.
Brazil closes its international border with Venezuela, following a similar move enacted but then rescinded by Colombia earlier in 2018, as a response to an increase in Venezuelans fleeing their country to neighbouring states.
